Defensive Driving School FAQ’s
Is Defensive Driving School a licensed driving school in California?
Just because a driving school appears on our directory of driver training institutions, we cannot guarantee that they are fully licensed to offer driver training courses in California.  We highly recommend that you contact Defensive Driving School directly or the California DMV to find out for sure if Defensive Driving School offers behind-the-wheel training courses that have been approved by the State of California.
Could I just have my mother or father teach me how to drive instead of paying money to take a professional driver training course?
It depends on which state you live in.  There are some states which allow you to do your behind-the-wheel training with a parent or guardian instead of enrolling in a professional driving school.  However many states require that first-time drivers take a professionally-taught behind-the-wheel training course.  We recommend that you ask your state's DMV office to find out if your parent or guardian can fill the role as your behind-the-wheel driving instructor.
Do you know if Defensive Driving School will let me complete my behind-the-wheel training using an automatic-shift vehicle? I don't know anything about using a manual-shift.
Considering you're a brand new driver, you probably don't know a whole lot about driving ANY type of vehicle, be it a stick OR an automatic!  Nevertheless, if you have a preference, you probably should contact Defensive Driving School and see if they can accommodate you before signing up to take their behind-the-wheel training course.
Since I live way out in a remote location where driving on dirt roads and rugged terrain is the norm, will Defensive Driving School be able to teach me how to drive in a non-urban environment? Or do they only prepare you for city-driving?
Since you live in a remote location, odds are that any local driving school in your area such as Defensive Driving School will want you to be able to drive safely on unpaved roads and bumpy terrain.  We recommend that you contact Defensive Driving School directly to find out exactly what they offer.
Can 14-year-olds get instruction permits to drive in California?
Most states have set the minimum age for applying for a learner's permit at 15 or 15 1/2.  However, some states do allow 14-year-olds to get an instruction permit.  You may want to contact the California DMV or a California-approved driver training school like Defensive Driving School to find out what the minimum age to drive is in California.
Is taking a drivers education course in a classroom or online sufficient in Los Angeles California or do I also have to enroll in a driver training class with a professional driving instructor?
It depends on what the California's laws require, but many states do mandate that new, young drivers to register for a behind-the-wheel training class with a professional driving instructor as well as a drivers education classroom or online course.
If I need to register for a Los Angeles California driver training program, can Defensive Driving School help?
Yes.  Defensive Driving School offers behind-the-wheel training courses in Los Angeles California.  For more information about the type of behind-the-wheel training Defensive Driving School offers and the training schedule, you should contact them directly.
What steps do I have to take in order to get a California drivers license in Los Angeles California?
Most states require that teen-agers who are applying for their first driver's license complete both a safe driving classroom course and a driver training course.  Defensive Driving School may be able to help you meet the driver training portion in California.  Please contact Defensive Driving School for more information.

Do I have to take a Los Angeles California driver training course in order to get a driver's license?
Yes.  All drivers in California must enroll in an approved driver training course in order to receive a driver's license.  Please contact Defensive Driving School for information on the types of driver training courses they offer in Los Angeles California.
Is it okay for me to register for a driver training class in California before I receive my California learners permit to drive?
Probably not.  Most states require first-time drivers to have their learners permit before they are allowed to sign up to take a driver training program.  You should contact a driving instruction company like Defensive Driving School and request more information.
