Northern Lights Driving School FAQ’s
Can you tell me if Northern Lights Driving School is a licensed driver training school in Alaska?
Although Northern Lights Driving School is listed on our list of driving schools in your area, we are unable to say with certainty as to whether they are currently licensed to teach behind-the-wheel training courses in Alaska.  We recommend either calling Northern Lights Driving School directly or the Alaska DMV to find out whether or not Northern Lights Driving School offers hands-on driving courses that are state-approved.
Could I just have my mother or father teach me how to drive instead of paying money to enroll in a professional driver training course?
It depends on which state you live in.  There are some states which allow you to do your behind-the-wheel training with a parent or guardian instead of enrolling in a professional driving school.  However many states require that new drivers take a professionally-taught behind-the-wheel training course.  We recommend that you ask your state's DMV office to find out if your parent or guardian can fill the role as your behind-the-wheel driving instructor.
I don't know how to drive using a manual-shift. Will Northern Lights Driving School have an automatic-shift car available that I can use for my driver training?
Since you're enrolling in a Fairbanks Alaska behind-the-wheel training class, chances are good that you don't know how to drive either a stick-shift OR an automatic!  However, you should let Northern Lights Driving School know what your preference is before registering for their driver class.  That way you'll know for sure they will accommodate you.
I live in a remote area, that has a lot of dirt roads and rugged terrain. Will Northern Lights Driving School teach me how to drive in BOTH city AND rural environments?
If you live in a remote area, chances are very good that a local driver training school like Northern Lights Driving School will want you to be taught how to drive safely on the local area's terrain.
After I turn 14, will I be eligible to get my learner's permit so I can begin to learn how to drive?
It depends on which state you live in, however most states unfortunately require you to be at least 15 (or sometimes 15 1/2) before you can be issued a instruction permit.  We suggest that you contact a local driver training school such as Northern Lights Driving School or the Alaska DMV office to learn more about the minimum age requirement for driving in Alaska.
Am I required to take a Fairbanks Alaska classroom or online drivers education course before I can enroll in a behind-the-wheel training course through Northern Lights Driving School?
This requirement varies from state to state but most states do require pre-licensed drivers to take BOTH a classroom-based driver education course (generally 30 hours in length) AND a driver training course.  You should ask Northern Lights Driving School if they offer one or both programs.
I have to take a behind-the-wheel training course in Fairbanks Alaska. Can I meet this requirement by registering with Northern Lights Driving School?
Yes, Northern Lights Driving School offers defensive driving courses in Fairbanks Alaska.  You will need to contact Northern Lights Driving School directly to get more information on the types of courses they offer and when to register for a class.
What type of driver ed do I need before Alaska will give me a driver's license?
Each state has its own requirements concerning drivers education, although you should know that most states now require all new, young drivers to register for a drivers education classroom or online course as well as a driver training course.  Northern Lights Driving School may be able to help you fulfill the driver training requirement in Alaska.  Please contact either Northern Lights Driving School or the Alaska DMV for more information.
Do I have to take a Fairbanks Alaska driver training course in order to get a driver's license?
Yes.  All drivers in Alaska must successfully complete an approved driver training course in order to receive a driver's license.  Please contact Northern Lights Driving School for information on the types of behind-the-wheel training courses they offer in Fairbanks Alaska.
Do I need to have my instruction permit before I register for a driver training course like the one that Northern Lights Driving School offers?
You will need to contact Northern Lights Driving School or the Alaska DMV to find out if you are allowed to enroll in a driving school like Northern Lights Driving School before obtaining your Alaska learner's permit.
