A Regent Driving School FAQ’s
Is A Regent Driving School a licensed driving school in California?
Just because a driving school appears on our directory of driver training institutions, we cannot guarantee that they are fully licensed to offer hands-on driving courses in California.  We highly recommend that you contact A Regent Driving School directly or the California DMV to find out for sure if A Regent Driving School offers hands-on driving courses that have been approved by the State of California.
Could I just have my mother or father give me my behind-the-wheel training instead of paying money to attend a professional behind-the-wheel training course?
It depends on which state you live in.  There are some states which permit you to do your hands-on driver training with a parent or guardian instead of enrolling in a professional driving school.  However many states require that new drivers take a professionally-taught behind-the-wheel training course.  We recommend that you ask your state's DMV office to find out if your parent or guardian can fill the role as your behind-the-wheel driving instructor.
Do I need to tell A Regent Driving School that I need to train with an automatic-shift car? I don't know how to drive a stick-shift vehicle.
Most new drivers don't know how to operate either a manual-shift OR and automatic-shift car!  We recommend that you ask A Regent Driving School if you can complete your behind-the-wheel training using an automatic-shift vehicle before you sign up to take their driver training course.
I live out in the middle of nowhere. There are rural and mountain roads everywhere. Will A Regent Driving School teach me how to drive in BOTH rural AND city areas?
If you live in a rural or mountain area, chances are that a local driving instruction institute like A Regent Driving School will include behind-the-wheel driver training specifically tailored to that terrain.
Can I apply for my California instruction permit once I turn 14?
Most likely, no.  Most states have set the minimum age to obtain an instruction permit at 15 or 15½.  You may want to contact the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driving instruction school like A Regent Driving School to learn more about the minimum age requirement in California.
Do you know if the laws in California require new teen-aged drivers to register for a driver training course in addition to a driver ed classroom or online course?
The laws vary from state to state, but many states do require you to take a behind-the-wheel training course with "hands-on" practice in addition to a drivers education classroom or online course.
Does A Regent Driving School provide a behind-the-wheel training course like the one that is required by the State of California? I need to complete one in order to obtain my driver license.
A Regent Driving School offers behind-the-wheel training courses which are approved by the California DMV.  You may want to contact A Regent Driving School directly for more information about their courses and how to go about signing up for one.
Do I have to take drivers education to get a California driver's license?
Drivers education requirements vary depending on which state you live in, but you should be aware that most states require new, teen-aged drivers to complete both a behind-the-wheel training course in addition to a drivers education classroom or online course.  You may wish to contact the California DMV to find out exactly what requirements you will need to meet in order to obtain your first driver's license.
Is it necessary for me to complete a driver training course in order to get my first California driver's license?
Yes, it is.  All teen-aged drivers applying for their first driver's license in California are required to take a state-approved driver training course.
Am I required to obtain my learner's permit in California before I am allowed to register for a behind-the-wheel training course like the one A Regent Driving School gives its students?
Laws vary from state to state, however most states do require that you hold an learner's permit before you can register for a driver training course like the one that A Regent Driving School gives its students.
