A Auto Driving School FAQ’s
Are all the driving schools listed on your website fully-certified by the California DMV to offer driver training courses in California?
The driving school directory on our website is for your convenience only, and we cannot absolutely guarantee that every driving school listed is currently licensed to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in California.  We suggest you contact the California DMV to make sure a particular driver training school is accredited before you sign up to take their driver training course.
I've been told that either of my parents can supervise my behind-the-wheel training, so I don't have to attend a California driving school like A Auto Driving School to fulfill my driver training requirement. Do you know if that's true or not?
You will need to contact the California DMV or a state-approved driver training school like A Auto Driving School to find out.  Some states do allow parent-taught driving, but many states do not.
What if I don't know how to operate a stick-shift automobile? Does A Auto Driving School have automatic-shift vehicles that I can drive when I do my behind-the-wheel training?
If you're taking a California behind-the-wheel training class, chances are you don't know how to drive ANY vehicle yet-- manual or automatic.  However, if you prefer an automatic vehicle then you should tell A Auto Driving School that prior to signing up to take the course in order to make sure they can accommodate you.
What happens to those of us who live in a rural area? Will A Auto Driving School include instruction on how to drive on dirt roads, mountain roads, and other bumpy terrain?
If you live in a rural location, there is a high probability that a local driver training school like A Auto Driving School will either want--or even be required--to tailor their instruction towards driving safely in your particular locale.
Can I apply for my California learner's permit once I turn 14?
Most likely, no.  Most states have set the minimum age to obtain a learner's permit at 15 or 15½.  You may want to contact the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a certified driving instruction school like A Auto Driving School to learn more about the minimum age requirement in California.
Do I have to complete a California drivers education classroom course or online course before signing up to take one of A Auto Driving School's driver training courses?
Each state has its own laws, but most states will require first-time drivers to take both a driver training course plus either a drivers education classroom course (which are about 30 hours in length) or an approved online defensive driving course.  You may want to ask A Auto Driving School if they offer one or both programs.
I'm required to take a behind-the-wheel training course in California. Do you know if A Auto Driving School offers defensive driving classes in California?
Yes, A Auto Driving School does offer driver training courses in California.  For more information about their class schedule and how/when to sign up for one of their defensive driving courses, please contact A Auto Driving School directly.
How do I obtain a drivers license in California?
In most states, pre-licensed teens are required to complete both a classroom drivers education course and a driver training course.  A Auto Driving School may be able to help you fulfill the driver training portion in California.
What are the laws in California concerning driver training courses? Do I have to take one to get my driver's license?
Yes, you do.  California law states that new drivers successfully complete an approved driver training course as a prerequisite to getting their first driver's license.
Will California allow me to register for a behind-the-wheel training course before I actually receive my instruction permit?
You will need to contact your state's DMV office to find out.  However, most states require that you obtain your instruction permit before you register with a driver training course.
