West Coast Driving School FAQ’s
Can you tell me if West Coast Driving School is a certified driver training school in California?
Although West Coast Driving School is listed on our list of driving schools in your area, we are unable to say with certainty as to whether they are currently licensed to teach behind-the-wheel training courses in California.  We recommend either calling West Coast Driving School directly or the California DMV to find out whether or not West Coast Driving School offers driver training courses that are state-approved.
Could I just have my mother or father teach me how to drive instead of paying money to attend a professional driver training course?
It depends on which state you live in.  There are some states which allow you to complete your hands-on driver training with a parent or guardian instead of attending a professional driving school.  However many states require that new drivers take a professionally-taught driver training course.  We recommend that you check with your state's DMV office to find out if your parent or guardian can fill the role as your behind-the-wheel driving instructor.
What happens if I don't know how to operate a manual-shift vehicle? Will West Coast Driving School allow me to do my driver training with an automatic-shift car?
Considering you're a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about operating any type of car--stick-shift or automatic-shift!  However, if you prefer to complete your behind-the-wheel training using an automatic-shift vehicle, you should contact West Coast Driving School and inform them before you sign up to take their driver training course.  That way you will know for certain if they will accommodate you.
I live out in the middle of nowhere. There are rural and mountain roads everywhere. Will West Coast Driving School train me how to drive in BOTH rural AND city areas?
If you live in a rural or mountain area, chances are that a local driving instruction institute like West Coast Driving School will include behind-the-wheel driver training specifically tailored to that terrain.
I just turned 14 years old. Am I eligible to receive my learner's permit in California?
Probably not.  The minimum age requirement for holding an instruction permit in most states is 15 1/2.  You should contact the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driver training institute such as West Coast Driving School to find out more information about the minimum age requirement in California.
Is taking a drivers education course in a classroom or online sufficient in San Diego California or do I also have to register for a behind-the-wheel training class with a professional driving instructor?
It depends on what the California's laws require, but many states do mandate that new, young drivers to enroll in a behind-the-wheel training class with a professional driving instructor as well as a drivers education classroom or online course.
I have to take a defensive driving course in San Diego California. Can I meet this requirement by signing up with West Coast Driving School?
Yes, West Coast Driving School offers behind-the-wheel training courses in San Diego California.  You will need to contact West Coast Driving School directly to get more information on the types of courses they offer and when to register for a class.
How do I obtain a drivers license in San Diego California?
In most states, pre-licensed teens are required to complete both a classroom safe driving course and a behind-the-wheel training course.  West Coast Driving School may be able to help you fulfill the driver training portion in California.
Do I have to take a San Diego California driver training course in order to get a driver's license?
Yes.  All drivers in California must successfully complete an approved behind-the-wheel training course in order to be licensed to operate a motor vehicle.  Please contact West Coast Driving School for information on the types of behind-the-wheel training courses they offer in San Diego California.
Can I register for a California-licensed driver training course even if I don't have my California learners permit yet?
Most likely, no.  Most states have laws that mandate a pre-licensed driver to have obtained a California instruction permit before registering in a California behind-the-wheel training course.  It would be best for you to contact a driving school such as West Coast Driving School and ask for more information.
