Westwood Driving School FAQ’s
How do I know if Westwood Driving School is licensed by California's DMV to offer driver training courses?
While we do include Westwood Driving School's contact information in our driving school directory, we cannot say with certainty as to whether Westwood Driving School is certified by the State of California.  We recommend that you either contact Westwood Driving School directly or possibly the California DMV to find out if Westwood Driving School is a licensed driver training school.
Do I have to take a behind-the-wheel training course? Can't my parents just give me my behind-the-wheel training?
There are some states that do permit parents or guardians to provide their teen-aged kids' required driver training in order to obtain a driver's license.  However many states do not allow any type of substitution for taking a professionally-taught behind-the-wheel training course.  We suggest you contact your state's DMV to find out what the laws are in your state regarding behind-the-wheel training.
I have no clue how to drive a stick-shift vehicle. What happens if Westwood Driving School makes me train on a manual-shift vehicle?
Considering the fact you are a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about operating ANY type of vehicle....manual OR automatic!  If you prefer to do your behind-the-wheel training with an automatic-shift vehicle, you may want to call Westwood Driving School and let them know before you enroll in their behind-the-wheel training course.  That way you'll know for sure whether Westwood Driving School will be able to accommodate you before you pay them any money.
I live in a very rural area, where there are mountains and a lot of dirt roads. Do you know if Westwood Driving School offers training for driving in rural areas like where I live instead of just driving on smooth, paved roads in city areas?
Since you live in a remote area, a local driving school such as Westwood Driving School will tailor your behind-the-wheel training to handle the conditions in your area.
Can 14-year-olds get learner's permits to drive in California?
Most states have set the minimum age for applying for an instruction permit at 15 or 15 1/2.  However, some states do allow 14-year-olds to get an instruction permit.  You may want to contact the California DMV or a California-approved driver training school like Westwood Driving School to find out what the minimum age to drive is in California.
Do I have to take a Los Angeles California classroom or online drivers education course before I can enroll in a behind-the-wheel training course through Westwood Driving School?
This requirement varies from state to state but most states do require pre-licensed drivers to take BOTH a classroom-based defensive driving course (generally 30 hours in length) AND a driver training course.  You should ask Westwood Driving School if they offer one or both programs.
Does Westwood Driving School provide a hands-on driver training course like the one that is required by the State of California? I need to sign up for one in order to obtain my driver license.
Westwood Driving School offers hands-on driver training courses which are approved by the California DMV.  You may want to contact Westwood Driving School directly for more information about their courses and how to go about signing up for one.
Exactly what type of driver training do I need in Los Angeles California before I can get my California driver's license?
The prerequisites for getting a driver's licenses vary from state to state, however most states now require teen-agers who are looking to get their first driver's license to enroll in a safe driving classroom course as well as a driver training course.  We suggest that you contact a local driver training company such as Westwood Driving School and ask if they offer a California-approved  behind-the-wheel training course which would fulfill California's driver's education requirements.
What are the laws in California concerning driver training courses? Do I have to take one to get my driver's license?
Yes, you do.  California law states that new drivers successfully complete an approved driver training course as a prerequisite to obtaining their first driver's license.
Will California allow me to register for a driver training course before I actually receive my instruction permit?
You will need to contact your state's DMV office to find out.  However, most states require that you receive your learner's permit before you register with a driver training course.
