Advanced Driving School FAQ’s
How do I know if Advanced Driving School is certified by Virginia's DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses?
While we do include Advanced Driving School's contact information in our driving school directory, we cannot say with certainty as to whether Advanced Driving School is certified by the State of Virginia.  We recommend that you either contact Advanced Driving School directly or possibly the Virginia DMV to find out if Advanced Driving School is a licensed driver training school.
Do I have to take a behind-the-wheel training course? Can't my parents just give me my driver training?
There are some states that do allow parents or guardians to provide their teen-aged kids' required driver training in order to obtain a driver's license.  However many states do not allow any type of substitution for attending a professionally-taught behind-the-wheel training course.  We suggest you contact your state's DMV to find out what the laws are in your state regarding hands-on driving instruction.
I don't know how to drive using a manual-shift. Will Advanced Driving School have an automatic-shift car available that I can use for my driver training?
Since you're enrolling in a Newport News Virginia behind-the-wheel training class, chances are good that you don't know how to drive either a stick-shift OR an automatic!  However, you should let Advanced Driving School know what your preference is before signing up to take their driver class.  That way you'll know for sure they will accommodate you.
I live in a remote area, that has a lot of dirt roads and bumpy terrain. Will Advanced Driving School train me how to drive in BOTH city AND rural environments?
If you live in a remote area, chances are very good that a local driver training school like Advanced Driving School will want you to be taught how to drive safely on the local area's terrain.
After I turn 14, will I be eligible to obtain my instruction permit so I can begin to learn how to drive?
It depends on which state you live in, however most states unfortunately require you to be at least 15 (or sometimes 15 1/2) before you can be issued a learner's permit.  We suggest that you contact a local driver training school such as Advanced Driving School or the Virginia DMV office to learn more about the minimum age requirement for driving in Virginia.
I live in Newport News Virginia. Does the law say I have to register for both a driver ed classroom or online course and a driver training course in order to be fully-licensed here?
Each state has its own laws in regards to licensing procedures.  However, most states do mandate that new, teen-aged drivers take both a driver training course plus either a drivers education online course or drivers education classroom course .
I am looking to register for a Newport News Virginia defensive driving course. Can Advanced Driving School assist me with this?
Yes.  defensive driving courses are available in Newport News Virginia through Advanced Driving School.  Please contact Advanced Driving School directly with questions regarding their schedule of classes and registration information.
What type of driver ed do I need before Virginia will give me a driver's license?
Each state has its own requirements concerning drivers education, although you should know that most states now mandate all new, young drivers to register for a safe driving classroom or online course as well as a driver training course.  Advanced Driving School may be able to help you fulfill the behind-the-wheel training requirement in Virginia.  Please contact either Advanced Driving School or the Virginia DMV for more information.
Is there a law in Virginia that requires me to take behind-the-wheel training in order to get my driver's license?
Yes.  State law in Virginia mandates that all teen-agers successfully complete an approved behind-the-wheel training course before receiving a Virginia driver's license.
Can I enroll in a Virginia-approved driver training course even if I don't have my Virginia instruction permit yet?
Most likely, no.  Most states have laws that mandate a pre-licensed driver to have obtained a Virginia learners permit before registering in a Virginia behind-the-wheel training course.  It would be best for you to contact a driving school such as Advanced Driving School and ask for more information.
