Will online drivers education satisfy Maine BMV requirements?
In Maine, Teen Driving Course is designed to a supplemental education tool only.  However, our online drivers education classes will prepare you for your learners permit exam and help you pass other Maine drivers ed requirements with flying colors.  If you would like to know if Teen Driving Course's online drivers education class can be taken in place of a state-approved drivers education classroom course, please contact the Maine BMV.
What paperwork do I need to give the Maine BMV?
The Maine BMV will require you to fill out an application for your learners permit and, if you are under 18, it must include your parent's or a legal guardian's signature.  You should also bring with you proof of identification, citizenship or legal residence and your social security number.
What if I don’t pass the test? How many times can I take the test?
The written part of your Maine instruction permit exam will consist of 25 questions.  if you don't get at least 21 correct  (84%), you will need to come back no earlier than the next business day to retake the exam.  However, you can take the exam until you pass.
How many questions are on the final exam at the end of the Teen Driving Course Maine online drivers ed class?
Teen Driving Course requires you to pass a 35-question exam with a score of 80% or more in order to complete the online driver ed class (that's 28 questions answered correctly).  You can retake the exam as many times as you need with no added cost.
How long until I receive my Maine Teen Driving Course certificate of completion?
After you pass the final exam for our Maine online driver education class, Teen Driving Course will ship your certificate of completion to you.  Delivery time depends upon the method of shipping you select when you sign up with Teen Driving Course:  regular mail (USPS) delivery(which takes about 3 to 5 days) or FedEx Overnight, 2nd day or 3rd day (please know there is an additional shipping fee if you choose FedEx).  You may change your shipping options at any time prior to requesting delivery of your certificate.
When can I start driving with my Maine instruction permit?
The Maine BMV encourages young drivers to begin practicing early.  As soon as you obtain your Maine instruction permit, you can begin driving under the supervision of a licensed Maine driver in the passenger seat.  Your supervising driver must be 20 years or older and have 2 years of driving experience.
How long do I need to have my instruction permit before I can get my Maine drivers license?
If you're under 21, you can't apply to take your drivers license exam with the Maine BMV until you've held a permit for at least six (6) months and finished 35 supervised hours of driving.
Do I have to have behind-the-wheel training before I can get my drivers license?
In Maine, you will not need to participate in a professional driving school to obtain your drivers license.  However, you must practice driving for 35 hours with a parent or legal guardian who is also a licensed Maine driver (5 of these hours must be at night).  Whoever rides with you must also certify your driving with an official Maine BMV driving log form, (which you can get off the Maine BMV website).  You must present this completed and signed driving log when you apply for your Maine drivers license road test.
Can my friends ride with me after I get my Maine instruction permit?
If you are under 18, you cannot drive with any passengers who are not family members with a Maine learners' permit, unless the front passenger seat is occupied by a licensed driver who's at least 20 years old with 2 years driving experience.
Can my friends ride with me after I get my Maine drivers license?
If you're under 18, there are some restrictions you will need to follow for the first six (6) months after receiving your Maine drivers license, you still must be accompanied by a 20-year-old licensed driver with at least two (2) years of experience in order to carry unrelated passengers.   You also may not drive at all between the hours of 12 midnight and 5am during this time period.  After this 180-day provisional period, you can begin driving with your friends or other unrelated passengers without direct supervisions.  You may also drive--carefully--after midnight.
