When you are 14 1/2, you may apply to enroll in a Michigan-approved driver education program.  You will need to complete this course before receiving a certificate of completion.  When you obtain this and turn 14 years and 9 months old, you can apply for a Michigan learners permit.

What if I don't pass the Michigan learners license exam?
The Michigan SOS requires you to pass a learners license exam before you start driving to ensure you learned what you needed to in your Michigan driver education course.  40/50 is the required score, but you can retake the exam once per day until you pass, should you not pass the first time.
What is the Teen Drivers Course final exam? What do I need to score to pass it?
Teen Drivers Course of Michigan gives its students a 35-question multiple choice exam as a review of what is taught in our online driver education course.  You will need to answer at least 28 questions correctly (80%), and you can retake the exam over and over until you pass, at no added cost.

How long until I receive my certificate of completion?
Usually 3-5 business days, if you opt for regular mail (USPS).  However, for an additional fee, you can choose to have your Michigan online driver education certificate of completion sent by FedEx (3rd Day, 2nd Day, or Overnight Delivery).
Now that I have my Michigan learners license, when can I start driving?
As soon as you receive your Level 1 Michigan learners license.  But remember, you must have a licensed adult in the front passenger seat at all times whenever you drive.
After I get my learners permit, how long do I have to wait before applying for my Michigan drivers license?
If you are under 18, you must have had your level Michigan learners license for at least six (6) months before you can get your Level 2, Graduated Michigan drivers license from the Michigan SOS office.
Do I need behind-the-wheel training from a driving school?
Michigan drivers under the age of 18 have to go through two (2) segments of driver education.  After completing an in-class driver education course, which includes behind-the-wheel training and observation, you can get your Michigan learners license.

Once you have held your learners license for 3 months and accumulated 30 of the 50 required hours of practice driving (this includes 10 hours at night), you can enroll in Segment 2 of Michigan driver education and receive your Michigan drivers license.
How many hours of supervised driving do I have to have to get my Michigan drivers license?
You must accumulate 50 hours of driving, including 10 hours at night to get your Michigan driver's license.
Can I drive alone, or with my friends, now that I have my Michigan learners permit?
Unfortunately not.  Michigan law will only allow you to drive with a licensed Michigan driver who's at least 21 years old.
Can I drive with my friends now that I have a drivers license?
Yes, if you have completed both segments of Michigan driver education and are given a graduated drivers license by the Michigan SOS, you can drive your friends around.  But please, remember to drive safely--focus on your driving, not on your friends' conversations!
