Northwestern Driving School FAQ’s
Since Northwestern Driving School appears on your website, does this mean they are approved by the Illinois DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses?
The list of driver training schools on our webpage is provided as a convenience to our customers only.  We CANNOT guarantee that every single school listed is fully-certified by the Illinois DMV.  You may want to call Northwestern Driving School directly to find out if they offer a state-certified behind-the-wheel training course.
Is it true that my mom or dad can be my driving instructor when I do my driver training instead of a professional driver training school instructor like the ones they have at Northwestern Driving School?
It depends on what your state's laws are.  You should contact the Illinois DMV or a licensed driving school like Northwestern Driving School to find out if Illinois allows driver training with a parent.
What if I don't know how to drive a stick-shift automobile? Does Northwestern Driving School have automatic-shift vehicles that I can drive when I do my behind-the-wheel training?
If you're taking a Chicago Illinois driver training class, chances are you don't know how to drive ANY vehicle yet-- stick or automatic.  However, if you prefer an automatic vehicle then you should tell Northwestern Driving School that prior to registering for the course in order to make sure they can accommodate you.
I live out in the middle of nowhere. There are rural and mountain roads all around. Will Northwestern Driving School teach me how to drive in BOTH rural AND city areas?
If you live in a rural or mountain community, chances are that a local driving instruction institute like Northwestern Driving School will include behind-the-wheel driver training specifically tailored to that terrain.
If I'm 14, can I get a driver's permit to drive in Illinois?
Possibly.  However, you should be aware that most states require you to be at least 15½ years old before you can get a learner's permit.  We recommend that you contact the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a certified driving school such as Northwestern Driving School to find out exactly what the minimum age requirement is in Illinois.
Will I be required to complete both a drivers education classroom or online course and a driver training course in Chicago Illinois?
It depends on which state you live in, but many states now require new teen-aged drivers to enroll in both a drivers education course as well as a behind-the-wheel training course.
Does Northwestern Driving School provide a driver training course like the one that is required by the State of Illinois? I need to complete one in order to obtain my driver license.
Northwestern Driving School offers hands-on driver training courses which are approved by the Illinois DMV.  You may want to contact Northwestern Driving School directly for more information about their courses and how to go about registering for one.
What are the requirements in Chicago Illinois for getting a drivers license?
It depends on your state's laws, however in many states, teen-agers must complete both a drivers education classroom course and a driver training course.  Northwestern Driving School may offer an approved driver training course which you could take.  Please contact Northwestern Driving School for information regarding their available classes and how to go about signing up for them.
What are the laws in Illinois concerning driver training courses? Do I have to take one to get my driver's license?
Yes, you do.  Illinois law states that new drivers successfully complete an approved driver training course as a prerequisite to obtaining their first driver's license.
Is it possible to register for a Illinois-certified driver training course before I obtain my Illinois learners permit?
It depends on what the specific laws are in Illinois, however most states require first-time drivers to receive an learners permit before signing up for a behind-the-wheel training course.  We recommend you contact a driving school such as Northwestern Driving School to obtain more information.
