National Defensive Driving FAQ’s
Can you tell me if National Defensive Driving is a certified driver training school in Arizona?
Although National Defensive Driving is listed on our list of driving schools in your area, we are unable to say with certainty as to whether they are currently certified to teach driver training courses in Arizona.  We recommend either calling National Defensive Driving directly or the Arizona DMV to find out whether or not National Defensive Driving offers hands-on driving courses that are state-approved.
I've been told that either of my parents can monitor my driver training, so I don't have to attend a Gilbert Arizona driving school like National Defensive Driving to fulfill my driver training requirement. Do you know if that's true or not?
You will need to contact the Arizona DMV or a state-approved driving school like National Defensive Driving to find out.  Some states do allow parent-taught driving, but many states do not.
What if I don't know how to drive a vehicle with a stick-shift? Does National Defensive Driving have an automatic-shift vehicle they'll let me train with?
Since you're just learning how to drive, you probably don't know how to operate either a manual-shift or an automatic-shift vehicle!  However, if you have a preference as to a stick or an automatic, you probably should call National Defensive Driving to see if they can accommodate your request prior to your signing up to take their driver training course.
What happens to those of us who live in a rural area? Will National Defensive Driving include instruction on how to drive on dirt roads, mountain roads, and other bumpy terrain?
If you live in a rural location, there is a high probability that a local driving school like National Defensive Driving will either want--or even be required--to tailor their instruction towards driving safely in your particular locale.
If I'm 14, can I get an instruction permit to drive in Arizona?
Possibly.  However, you should be aware that most states require you to be at least 15½ years old before you can get a learner's permit.  We recommend that you contact the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a certified driving school such as National Defensive Driving to find out exactly what the minimum age requirement is in Arizona.
Do I have to take both a defensive driving classroom course and a driver training course in Gilbert Arizona to get my Arizona driver's license?
The laws vary depending on which state you live in, but most states do require that pre-licensed drivers sign up to take a defensive driving classroom course and a behind-the-wheel training course.  You may want to call a driving instruction company like National Defensive Driving and find out if they offer either (or both) of these programs.
If I need to register for a Gilbert Arizona driving school, can National Defensive Driving help?
Yes.  National Defensive Driving offers driving courses in Gilbert Arizona.  For more information about the type of driver training National Defensive Driving offers and the training schedule, you should contact them directly.
Do I have to take drivers education to get a Arizona driver's license?
Drivers education requirements vary depending on which state you live in, but you should be aware that most states require new, teen-aged drivers to sign up to take both a behind-the-wheel training course in addition to a safe driving classroom or online course.  You may wish to contact the Arizona DMV to find out exactly what requirements you will need to satisfy in order to obtain your first driver's license.
I live in Gilbert Arizona and would like to apply for my first driver's license. Do I need to take a driver training course before I can be licensed?
Arizona law requires that all new drivers successfully complete an approved behind-the-wheel training program before receiving their Arizona driver's license.  National Defensive Driving may offer a behind-the-wheel training course that you are looking for.  Please contact National Defensive Driving directly for complete information as to what types of behind-the-wheel training courses they offer.
Do I need to have my learner's permit before I sign up to take a driver training course like the one that National Defensive Driving offers?
You will need to contact National Defensive Driving or the Arizona DMV to find out if you are allowed to enroll in a driving school like National Defensive Driving before receiving your Arizona learner's permit.
