Hill Country Driving FAQ’s
Can you tell me if Hill Country Driving is a licensed driver training school in Texas?
Although Hill Country Driving is listed on our list of driving schools in your area, we are unable to say with certainty as to whether they are currently certified to teach driver training courses in Texas.  We recommend either calling Hill Country Driving directly or the Texas DMV to find out whether or not Hill Country Driving offers hands-on driving courses that are state-approved.
Will the Texas DMV allow my parents to supervise my driving practice instead of requiring me to take a behind-the-wheel training course at a state-approved driving school?
Possibly.  Some states will allow your parents to supervise your driving practice in place of taking a behind-the-wheel driving course with a professional driving instructor.  You will need to contact the Texas DMV to find out if your driver training may be done by your parents in Texas.
I have no clue how to drive a manual-shift vehicle. What happens if Hill Country Driving makes me train on a manual-shift vehicle?
Considering the fact you are a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about operating ANY type of vehicle....manual OR automatic!  If you prefer to do your hands-on driver training with an automatic-shift vehicle, you may want to call Hill Country Driving and let them know before you enroll in their behind-the-wheel training course.  That way you'll know for certain whether Hill Country Driving can accommodate you before you pay them any money.
I live out in the middle of nowhere. There are rural and mountain roads all around. Will Hill Country Driving train me how to drive in BOTH rural AND city areas?
If you live in a rural or mountain area, chances are that a local driving instruction institute like Hill Country Driving will include behind-the-wheel driver training specifically tailored to that terrain.
Can 14-year-olds obtain instruction permits to drive in Texas?
Most states have set the minimum age for applying for an instruction permit at 15 or 15 1/2.  However, some states do allow 14-year-olds to obtain an instruction permit.  You may want to contact the Texas DMV or a Texas-approved driver training school like Hill Country Driving to find out what the minimum age to drive is in Texas.
Do I have to complete a Buda Texas drivers education classroom course or online course before signing up to take one of Hill Country Driving's driver training courses?
Each state has its own laws, but most states will require first-time drivers to take both a driver training course plus either a defensive driving classroom course (which are about 30 hours in length) or an approved online defensive driving course.  You may want to ask Hill Country Driving if they offer one or both programs.
Texas's DMV has told me that I need to take a behind-the-wheel training course. Do you know if Hill Country Driving offers this course or not?
Hill Country Driving does offer the behind-the-wheel training course that Texas requires all new teen-aged drivers to take.  For more information about the courses Hill Country Driving offers, we recommend that you contact Hill Country Driving directly.
Do I have to take drivers education to get a Texas driver's license?
Drivers education requirements vary depending on which state you live in, but you should be aware that most states require new, teen-aged drivers to sign up to take both a driver training course in addition to a safe driving classroom or online course.  You may wish to contact the Texas DMV to find out exactly what requirements you will need to fulfill in order to obtain your first driver's license.
What are the laws in Texas concerning driver training courses? Do I have to take one to get my driver's license?
Yes, you do.  Texas law states that new drivers take an approved driver training course as a prerequisite to getting their first driver's license.
Is it all right if I sign up with a behind-the-wheel training school like Hill Country Driving prior to my receiving my learner's permit?
In most states, you are required to have already gotten your instruction permit before you register for your behind-the-wheel training course like the one offered by Hill Country Driving.  We suggest you contact either Hill Country Driving to find out more information.
