Golden Wheels Driving Academy FAQ’s
Are all the driving schools listed on your website fully-certified by the Texas DMV to offer driver training courses in Texas?
The driving school directory on our website is for your convenience only, and we cannot absolutely guarantee that every driving school listed is currently licensed to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in Texas.  We suggest you contact the Texas DMV to make sure a particular driver training school is accredited before you register for their driving course.
Somebody told me that I can skip out of attending a driver training school if my parents give me behind-the-wheel training instead. Is that permissible in Texas?
Each state has its own laws regarding driver training.  Some states will allow parentally-supervised behind-the-wheel training as a substitute for taking a driver training course which is taught by a professional driving instructor.  However, not all states allow this.  You should contact the Texas DMV to find out for sure.
What if I don't know how to operate a stick-shift automobile? Does Golden Wheels Driving Academy have automatic-shift vehicles that I can drive when I do my driver training?
If you're taking a Dallas Texas behind-the-wheel training class, chances are you don't know how to drive ANY vehicle yet-- stick or automatic.  However, if you prefer an automatic vehicle then you should tell Golden Wheels Driving Academy that prior to enrolling in the course in order to make sure they can accommodate you.
I live in a rural area, that has a lot of dirt roads and rugged terrain. Will Golden Wheels Driving Academy teach me how to drive in BOTH city AND rural environments?
If you live in a remote area, chances are very good that a local driver training school like Golden Wheels Driving Academy will want you to be trained in driving specific to the local area's terrain.
Can I apply for my Texas learner's permit once I turn 14?
Most likely, no.  Most states have set the minimum age to obtain an instruction permit at 15 or 15½.  You may want to contact the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a certified driving instruction school like Golden Wheels Driving Academy to learn more about the minimum age requirement in Texas.
Can I take Golden Wheels Driving Academy's driver training course before taking a Dallas Texas defensive driving classroom course or online course?
It depends on what Texas's laws say.  However, you should know that most states will require teen-aged, first-time drivers to complete both a drivers education classroom course (which are approximately 30 hours in length, depending on Texas's laws) or an approved online course, plus a state-approved driver training course.  We recommend that you contact Golden Wheels Driving Academy directly to see if they offer either (or both) of these courses.
Texas's DMV has told me that I need to take a driver training course. Do you know if Golden Wheels Driving Academy offers this course or not?
Golden Wheels Driving Academy does offer the driver training course that Texas requires all new teen-aged drivers to take.  For more information about the courses Golden Wheels Driving Academy offers, we recommend that you contact Golden Wheels Driving Academy directly.
What type of driver ed do I need before Texas will give me a driver's license?
Each state has its own requirements concerning drivers education, although you should know that most states now require all new, young drivers to register for a drivers education classroom or online course as well as a driver training course.  Golden Wheels Driving Academy may be able to help you meet the behind-the-wheel training requirement in Texas.  Please contact either Golden Wheels Driving Academy or the Texas DMV for more information.
Is it necessary for me to take a behind-the-wheel training course in order to get my first Texas driver's license?
Yes, it is.  All teen-aged drivers applying for their first driver's license in Texas must complete a state-approved driver training course.
Is it all right if I register with a behind-the-wheel training school like Golden Wheels Driving Academy prior to my receiving my instruction permit?
In most states, you are required to have already received your instruction permit before you enroll in your behind-the-wheel training course like the one offered by Golden Wheels Driving Academy.  We suggest you contact either Golden Wheels Driving Academy to find out more information.
