Chris Defensive Driving FAQ’s
Is Chris Defensive Driving an approved driving school in Texas?
Just because a driving school appears on our directory of driver training institutions, we cannot guarantee that they are fully licensed to offer hands-on driving courses in Texas.  We highly recommend that you contact Chris Defensive Driving directly or the Texas DMV to find out for sure if Chris Defensive Driving offers hands-on driving courses that have been approved by the State of Texas.
Do you know if I can do my behind-the-wheel training with my mother or father instead of attending a behind-the-wheel training course like the ones offered by Chris Defensive Driving?
Some states allow teen-agers to do their driver training with their parents instead of attending a professional driving school.  We recommend that you contact the Texas DMV or Chris Defensive Driving directly to find out if Texas allows parent-taught behind-the-wheel training.
I have no clue how to drive a stick-shift vehicle. What happens if Chris Defensive Driving makes me train on a manual-shift vehicle?
Considering the fact you are a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about operating ANY type of vehicle....manual OR automatic!  If you prefer to do your hands-on driver training with an automatic-shift vehicle, you may want to call Chris Defensive Driving and let them know before you sign up to take their behind-the-wheel training course.  That way you'll know for certain whether Chris Defensive Driving will be able to accommodate you before you pay them any money.
I live in a remote area, that has a lot of dirt roads and bumpy terrain. Will Chris Defensive Driving teach me how to drive in BOTH city AND rural environments?
If you live in a rural area, chances are very good that a local driver training school like Chris Defensive Driving will want you to be trained in driving specific to the local area's terrain.
Are 14-year-olds permitted to obtain a instruction permit in Texas?
Although a few states allow teen-agers to begin practicing how to drive at 14, most states have set the youngest age for which to hold an instruction permit at either 15 or 15½.  You will need to contact the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driving school like Chris Defensive Driving to find out what the minimum age for driving is in Texas.
Is taking a drivers education course in a classroom or online sufficient in Houston Texas or do I also have to enroll in a behind-the-wheel training class with a professional driving instructor?
It depends on what the Texas's laws require, but many states do mandate that new, young drivers to take a driver training class with a professional driving instructor as well as a drivers education classroom or online course.
Texas law says that I must enroll in a driver training course in order to get licensed to drive in Houston Texas. Is this something that Chris Defensive Driving can help me with?
Yes, Chris Defensive Driving offers the Texas-approved behind-the-wheel training course.  For more information about their classes and instruction schedule, please contact Chris Defensive Driving directly.
How do I obtain a drivers license in Houston Texas?
In most states, pre-licensed teens are required to complete both a classroom safe driving course and a driver training course.  Chris Defensive Driving may be able to help you meet the driver training portion in Texas.
Is there a law in Texas that says I have to take driver training in order to get my driver's license?
Yes.  State law in Texas mandates that all teen-agers take an approved behind-the-wheel training course before receiving a Texas driver's license.
Will Texas allow me to enroll in a driver training course before I actually receive my learner's permit?
You will need to contact your state's DMV office to find out.  However, most states require that you obtain your learner's permit before you register with a driver training course.
