Memorial Defensive Driving FAQ’s
Can you tell me if Memorial Defensive Driving is a licensed driver training school in Texas?
Although Memorial Defensive Driving is listed on our list of driving schools in your area, we are unable to say with certainty as to whether they are currently certified to teach behind-the-wheel training courses in Texas.  We recommend either calling Memorial Defensive Driving directly or the Texas DMV to find out whether or not Memorial Defensive Driving offers behind-the-wheel training courses that are state-approved.
Will the Texas DMV allow my parents to supervise my driving practice instead of requiring me to take a behind-the-wheel training course at a state-approved driving school?
Possibly.  Some states will allow your parents to supervise your driving practice as a substitute to taking a driver training course with a professional driving instructor.  You will need to contact the Texas DMV to find out if your driver training may be done by your parents in Texas.
I don't know how to drive using a manual-shift. Will Memorial Defensive Driving have an automatic-shift car available that I can use for my behind-the-wheel training?
Since you're enrolling in a Houston Texas driver training class, chances are good that you don't know how to drive either a stick-shift OR an automatic!  However, you should let Memorial Defensive Driving know what your preference is before registering for their driver class.  That way you'll know for sure they will accommodate you.
I live in a very rural area, where there are mountains and a lot of dirt roads. Do you know if Memorial Defensive Driving offers training for driving in rural areas like where I live instead of just driving on smooth, paved roads in urban areas?
Since you live in a rural area, a local driving school such as Memorial Defensive Driving will tailor your behind-the-wheel training to handle the conditions in your area.
Now that I'm 14, will Texas allow me to get an instruction permit to drive?
Not likely.  Most states require residents to be at least 15 or 15 1/2 years old before applying for a learner's permit.  We recommend that your contact the Texas DMV office or a Texas-approved driving school such as Memorial Defensive Driving to learn more about the minimum driving age requirement in Texas.
Do I have to complete a Houston Texas drivers education classroom course or online course before registering for one of Memorial Defensive Driving's driver training courses?
Each state has its own rules, but most states will require first-time drivers to take both a driver training course plus either a defensive driving classroom course (which are about 30 hours in length) or an approved online drivers education course.  You may want to ask Memorial Defensive Driving if they offer one or both programs.
Texas law says that I must enroll in a hands-on driver training course in order to get licensed to drive in Houston Texas. Is this something that Memorial Defensive Driving can help me with?
Yes, Memorial Defensive Driving offers the Texas-approved driver training course.  For more information about their classes and instruction schedule, please contact Memorial Defensive Driving directly.
How do I obtain a drivers license in Houston Texas?
In most states, pre-licensed teens are required to complete both a classroom safe driving course and a driver training course.  Memorial Defensive Driving may be able to help you meet the behind-the-wheel training portion in Texas.
I live in Houston Texas and would like to apply for my first driver's license. Do I need to take a driver training course before I can be licensed?
Texas law requires that all first-time drivers sign up for an approved behind-the-wheel training program before receiving their Texas driver's license.  Memorial Defensive Driving may offer a driver training course that you are looking for.  Please contact Memorial Defensive Driving directly for complete information as to what types of behind-the-wheel training courses they offer.
Will Texas allow me to sign up to take a driver training course before I actually get my instruction permit?
You will need to contact your state's DMV office to find out.  However, most states require that you obtain your learner's permit before you enroll in a driver training course.
