Ride-Chicago FAQ’s
How do I know if Ride-Chicago is certified by Illinois's DMV to offer driver training courses?
While we do include Ride-Chicago's contact information in our driving school directory, we cannot say with certainty as to whether Ride-Chicago is licensed by the State of Illinois.  We recommend that you either contact Ride-Chicago directly or possibly the Illinois DMV to find out if Ride-Chicago is a licensed driver training school.
I've been told that either of my parents can monitor my driver training, so I don't have to attend a Chicago Illinois driving school like Ride-Chicago to fulfill my behind-the-wheel training requirement. Do you know if that's true or not?
You will need to contact the Illinois DMV or a state-approved driver training school like Ride-Chicago to find out.  Some states do allow parent-taught driving, but many states do not.
What if I don't know how to drive a manual-shift automobile? Does Ride-Chicago have automatic-shift vehicles that I can drive when I do my driver training?
If you're taking a Chicago Illinois behind-the-wheel training class, chances are you don't know how to drive ANY vehicle yet-- manual or automatic.  However, if you prefer an automatic vehicle then you should tell Ride-Chicago that prior to signing up to take the course in order to make sure they can accommodate you.
The area in which I live is mostly undeveloped--very few paved roads and mountains are all around. Will Ride-Chicago be able to teach me how to drive safely on bumpy terrain as well as in a city or town?
Considering that you live in a rural area, chances are excellent that a local driving school like Ride-Chicago will want you to be able to drive safely on unpaved roads and other types of bumpy terrain.  You may wish to contact Ride-Chicago to find out exactly what their behind-the-wheel training course includes before enrolling in their training course.
I just turned 14 years old. Am I eligible to receive my instruction permit in Illinois?
Probably not.  The minimum age requirement for holding an instruction permit in most states is 15 1/2.  You should contact the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driving school such as Ride-Chicago to find out more information about the minimum age requirement in Illinois.
Is taking a drivers education course in a classroom or online sufficient in Chicago Illinois or do I also have to successfully complete a behind-the-wheel training class with a professional driving instructor?
It depends on what the Illinois's laws require, but many states do mandate that new, young drivers to take a behind-the-wheel training class with a professional driving instructor as well as a drivers education classroom or online course.
Illinois law says that I must sign up to take a hands-on driver training course in order to get licensed to drive in Chicago Illinois. Is this something that Ride-Chicago can help me with?
Yes, Ride-Chicago offers the Illinois-approved hands-on driver training course.  For more information about their classes and instruction schedule, please contact Ride-Chicago directly.
What type of driver ed do I need before Illinois will give me a driver's license?
Each state has its own requirements concerning drivers education, although you should know that most states now mandate all new, young drivers to sign up to take a safe driving classroom or online course as well as a behind-the-wheel training course.  Ride-Chicago may be able to help you fulfill the driver training requirement in Illinois.  Please contact either Ride-Chicago or the Illinois DMV for more information.
Is it necessary for me to take a driver training course in order to get my first Illinois driver's license?
Yes, it is.  All teen-aged drivers applying for their first driver's license in Illinois are required to take a state-approved driver training course.
Can I enroll in a Illinois driver training course prior to having my Illinois learners permit?
Most states require pre-licensed drivers to hold a learners permit before being permitted to sign up to take a behind-the-wheel training course.  You should contact a driving school like Ride-Chicago and ask for more information.
