North Star Driving School FAQ’s
Can you tell me if North Star Driving School is a certified driver training school in Alaska?
Although North Star Driving School is listed on our list of driving schools in your area, we are unable to say with certainty as to whether they are currently approved to teach driver training courses in Alaska.  We recommend either calling North Star Driving School directly or the Alaska DMV to find out whether or not North Star Driving School offers hands-on driving courses that are state-approved.
I heard that parents can fill the role of driving supervisor in Alaska, so taking a North Pole driving school course like the one North Star Driving School offers is not necessary. Is that true?
You should contact the Alaska DMV or a licensed driving school like North Star Driving School and ask them.  While parent-taught driving instruction is permitted in some states, many states do NOT allow it.
What if I don't know how to operate a manual-shift automobile? Does North Star Driving School have automatic-shift vehicles that I can drive when I do my behind-the-wheel training?
If you're taking a North Pole Alaska behind-the-wheel training class, chances are you don't know how to drive ANY vehicle yet-- stick or automatic.  However, if you prefer an automatic vehicle then you should tell North Star Driving School that prior to registering for the course in order to make sure they can accommodate you.
I don't live anywhere near a city. There are dirt roads and bumpy terrain all around my house. How do I know if North Star Driving School will train me on how to drive in a remote area like where I live and not just teach me how to drive in a town-or city-type environment?
Since North Star Driving School is a local driver training company in your area, it's a safe bet that North Star Driving School will be motivated (or perhaps required) to teach its local customers how to drive on rugged terrain.  If you want to make certain, however, you may want to call North Star Driving School to find out exactly what's included in their driver training course before you sign up with them.
I'm turning 14 in a few days. Can I get a learner's permit to drive in Alaska after my 14th birthday?
Most likely, no.  Most states (though not all) have laws which require that you be at least 15 or 15 1/2 before to be eligible to apply for an instruction permit.  Nevertheless, you may wish to contact the Alaska DMV office or a Alaska-certified driving school such as North Star Driving School to find out for certain what the minimum driving age is in your local area.
Will I be required to register for both a drivers education classroom or online course and a driver training course in North Pole Alaska?
It depends on which state you live in, but many states now require new teen-aged drivers to register for both a drivers education course as well as a driver training course.
If I need to sign up to take a North Pole Alaska driving school, can North Star Driving School help?
Yes.  North Star Driving School offers behind-the-wheel training courses in North Pole Alaska.  For more information about the type of behind-the-wheel training North Star Driving School offers and the training schedule, you should contact them directly.
What type of driver ed do I need before Alaska will give me a driver's license?
Each state has its own requirements concerning drivers education, although you should know that most states now mandate all new, young drivers to enroll in a safe driving classroom or online course as well as a behind-the-wheel training course.  North Star Driving School may be able to help you meet the behind-the-wheel training requirement in Alaska.  Please contact either North Star Driving School or the Alaska DMV for more information.
Is there a law in Alaska that requires me to take driver training in order to get my driver's license?
Yes.  State law in Alaska requires that all teen-agers take an approved behind-the-wheel training course before receiving a Alaska driver's license.
Is it possible to register for a Alaska-approved behind-the-wheel training course before I obtain my Alaska learners permit?
It depends on what the specific laws are in Alaska, however most states require first-time drivers to receive a learners permit before registering for a driver training course.  We recommend you contact a driving school such as North Star Driving School to obtain more information.
