Steven's Driving School FAQ’s
Is Steven's Driving School an approved driving school in New York?
Just because a driving school appears on our directory of driver training institutions, we cannot guarantee that they are fully licensed to offer hands-on driving courses in New York.  We highly recommend that you contact Steven's Driving School directly or the New York DMV to find out for sure if Steven's Driving School offers driver training courses that have been approved by the State of New York.
I heard that parents can fill the role of driving instructor in New York, so taking a Buffalo driver training course like the one Steven's Driving School offers is not necessary. Is that true?
You should contact the New York DMV or a licensed driver training school like Steven's Driving School and ask them.  While parent-taught driving instruction is permitted in some states, many states do NOT allow it.
I have no clue how to drive a stick-shift vehicle. What happens if Steven's Driving School makes me train on a stick-shift vehicle?
Considering the fact you are a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about operating ANY type of vehicle....manual OR automatic!  If you prefer to do your hands-on driver training with an automatic-shift vehicle, you may want to call Steven's Driving School and let them know before you enroll in their behind-the-wheel training course.  That way you'll know for sure whether Steven's Driving School can accommodate you before you pay them any money.
I don't live anywhere near a city. There are dirt roads and rugged terrain all around my house. How do I know if Steven's Driving School will train me on how to drive in a remote area like where I live and not just teach me how to drive in a town-or city-type environment?
Since Steven's Driving School is a local driver training company in your area, it's a safe bet that Steven's Driving School will be motivated (or perhaps required) to teach its local customers how to drive on rough terrain.  If you want to make certain, however, you may want to call Steven's Driving School to find out exactly what's included in their behind-the-wheel training course before you register with them.
Are 14-year-olds permitted to obtain a learner's permit in New York?
Although a few states allow teen-agers to begin practicing how to drive at 14, most states have set the youngest age for which to hold an instruction permit at either 15 or 15½.  You will need to contact the New York Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driving instruction company like Steven's Driving School to find out what the minimum age for driving is in New York.
Do I have to complete a Buffalo New York drivers education classroom course or online course before signing up to take one of Steven's Driving School's driver training courses?
Each state has its own rules, but most states will require first-time drivers to take both a behind-the-wheel training course plus either a drivers education classroom course (which are about 30 hours in length) or an approved online defensive driving course.  You may want to ask Steven's Driving School if they offer one or both programs.
If I need to register for a Buffalo New York driving school, can Steven's Driving School help?
Yes.  Steven's Driving School offers behind-the-wheel training courses in Buffalo New York.  For more information about the type of driver training Steven's Driving School offers and the training schedule, you should contact them directly.
Do I have to take drivers education to get a New York driver's license?
Drivers education requirements vary depending on which state you live in, but you should be aware that most states require new, teen-aged drivers to complete both a behind-the-wheel training course in addition to a safe driving classroom or online course.  You may wish to contact the New York DMV to find out exactly what requirements you will need to meet in order to obtain your first driver's license.
Is it necessary for me to enroll in a behind-the-wheel training course in order to get my first New York driver's license?
Yes, it is.  All teen-aged drivers applying for their first driver's license in New York are required to take a state-approved behind-the-wheel training course.
Is it okay for me to sign up to take a driver training class in New York before I receive my New York instruction permit to drive?
Probably not.  Most states require first-time drivers to have their instruction permit before they are allowed to enroll in a driver training program.  You should contact a driving school like Steven's Driving School and request more information.
