Progressive Driving School FAQ’s
Progressive Driving School's contact information is listed on your webpage. How can I find out if it is a licensed behind the wheel training school in Illinois?
Even though we provide a list of driver training schools on our website, we have no way of knowing for sure as to whether or not a particular school is certified by the Illinois DMV to offer driver training courses.  We strongly suggest that you contact Progressive Driving School directly or check with the Illinois DMV to find out for sure if Progressive Driving School is a licensed school.
Somebody told me that I can skip out of attending a driver training school if my parents give me behind-the-wheel training instead. Is that permissible in Illinois?
Each state has its own rules regarding behind-the-wheel training.  Some states will allow parentally-supervised driver training as a substitute for enrolling in a behind-the-wheel training course which is taught by a professional driving instructor.  However, not all states allow this.  You should contact the Illinois DMV to find out for sure.
What happens if I don't know how to operate a stick-shift vehicle? Will Progressive Driving School allow me to do my driver training with an automatic-shift vehicle?
Considering you're a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about operating any type of automobile--manual-shift or automatic-shift!  However, if you prefer to complete your driver training using an automatic-shift vehicle, you should contact Progressive Driving School and let them know before you sign up to take their driver training course.  That way you will know for certain if they will accommodate you.
I don't live anywhere near a city. There are dirt roads and bumpy terrain all around my house. How do I know if Progressive Driving School will train me on how to drive in a rural area like where I live and not just teach me how to drive in a town-or city-type environment?
Since Progressive Driving School is a local driver training company in your area, it's a safe bet that Progressive Driving School will be motivated (or perhaps required) to teach its local customers how to drive on bumpy terrain.  If you want to make certain, however, you may want to call Progressive Driving School to find out exactly what's included in their driver training course before you sign up with them.
I just turned 14 years old. Can I receive my learner's permit in Illinois?
Probably not.  The minimum age requirement for holding a learners permit in most states is 15 1/2.  You should contact the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driver training institute such as Progressive Driving School to find out more information about the minimum age requirement in Illinois.
Am I required to take a Chicago Illinois classroom or online drivers education course before I can register for a driver training course through Progressive Driving School?
This requirement varies by state but most states do mandate new teen-aged drivers to take BOTH a classroom-based driver education course (generally 30 hours in length) AND a driver training course.  You should ask Progressive Driving School if they offer one or both programs.
If I need to enroll in a Chicago Illinois driver training program, can Progressive Driving School help?
Yes.  Progressive Driving School offers behind-the-wheel training courses in Chicago Illinois.  For more information about the type of behind-the-wheel training Progressive Driving School offers and the training schedule, you should contact them directly.
Exactly what type of driver education do I need in Chicago Illinois before I can get my Illinois driver's license?
The prerequisites for getting a driver's licenses vary from state to state, however most states now require teen-agers who are looking to get their first driver's license to complete a safe driving classroom course as well as a driver training course.  We suggest that you contact a local driver training company such as Progressive Driving School and ask if they offer a Illinois-approved  behind-the-wheel training course which would meet Illinois's driver's education requirements.
Do I have to take a Chicago Illinois driver training course in order to get a driver's license?
Yes.  All drivers in Illinois must enroll in an approved behind-the-wheel training course in order to be licensed to operate a motor vehicle.  Please contact Progressive Driving School for information on the types of driver training courses they offer in Chicago Illinois.
Do I need to have my instruction permit before I sign up to take a behind-the-wheel training course like the one that Progressive Driving School offers?
You will need to contact Progressive Driving School or the Illinois DMV to find out if you are allowed to sign up with a driving school like Progressive Driving School before obtaining your Illinois learner's permit.
