Cities Driving School FAQ’s
Since Cities Driving School is listed on your website, does this mean they are approved by the California DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses?
The list of driving schools on our webpage is provided as a convenience to our customers only.  We CANNOT guarantee that every single school listed is fully-certified by the California DMV.  You may want to call Cities Driving School directly to find out if they offer a state-certified behind-the-wheel training course.
Somebody told me that I can skip out of attending a driver training school if my parents give me behind-the-wheel training instead. Is that permissible in California?
Each state has its own laws regarding behind-the-wheel training.  Some states will allow parentally-supervised behind-the-wheel training as a substitute for attending a driver training course which is taught by a professional driving instructor.  However, not all states allow this.  You should contact the California DMV to find out for sure.
What if I don't know how to operate a stick-shift automobile? Does Cities Driving School have automatic-shift vehicles that I can drive when I do my driver training?
If you're taking a Oakland California behind-the-wheel training class, chances are you don't know how to drive ANY vehicle yet-- manual or automatic.  However, if you prefer an automatic vehicle then you should tell Cities Driving School that prior to registering for the course in order to make sure they can accommodate you.
The area in which I live is mostly undeveloped--very few paved roads and mountains are all around. Will Cities Driving School be able to teach me how to drive safely on rugged terrain as well as in a city or town?
Considering that you live in a rural area, chances are excellent that a local driving school like Cities Driving School will want you to be able to drive safely on unpaved roads and other types of rugged terrain.  You may wish to contact Cities Driving School to find out exactly what their driver training course includes before registering for their training course.
I'm turning 14 in a few months. Can I get a learner's permit to drive in California after my 14th birthday?
Most likely, no.  Most states (though not all) have laws which require that you be at least 15 or 15 1/2 before to be eligible to apply for an instruction permit.  Nevertheless, you may wish to contact the California DMV office or a California-certified driving school such as Cities Driving School to find out for certain what the minimum driving age is in your local area.
Do you know if the laws in California require new teen-aged drivers to take a behind-the-wheel training course in addition to a driver ed classroom or online course?
The laws vary from state to state, but many states do require you to register for a driver training course with "hands-on" practice in addition to a driver ed classroom or online course.
I have to take a safe driving class in Oakland California before California will give me my driver's license. Does Cities Driving School offer this type of course?
Cities Driving School does offer the driver training course in Oakland California that is required by the State of California.  You will need to contact Cities Driving School directly for more information about the driver courses they offer and their class schedules.
Exactly what type of driver education do I need in Oakland California before I can get my California driver's license?
The prerequisites for getting a driver's licenses vary from state to state, however most states now require teen-agers who are looking to get their first driver's license to enroll in a drivers education classroom course as well as a driver training course.  We suggest that you contact a local driver training company such as Cities Driving School and ask if they offer a California-approved  behind-the-wheel training course which would satisfy California's driver's education requirements.
Is there a law in California that requires me to take behind-the-wheel training in order to get my driver's license?
Yes.  State law in California requires that all teen-agers enroll in an approved driver training course before receiving a California driver's license.
Can I enroll in a California-approved behind-the-wheel training course even if I don't have my California learners permit yet?
Most likely, no.  Most states have laws that mandate a pre-licensed driver to have obtained a California learners permit before registering in a California driver training course.  It would be best for you to contact a driving school such as Cities Driving School and ask for more information.
