Northeast Community College FAQ’s
Are all the driving schools listed on your website fully-certified by the Nebraska DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in Nebraska?
The driving school directory on our website is for your convenience only, and we cannot absolutely guarantee that every driving school listed is currently certified to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in Nebraska.  We suggest you contact the Nebraska DMV to make sure a particular driving school is licensed before you sign up to take their driver training course.
Do I have to take a behind-the-wheel training course? Can't my parents just give me my driver training?
There are some states that do permit parents or guardians to provide their teen-aged kids' required driver training in order to obtain a driver's license.  However many states do not allow any type of substitution for taking a professionally-taught behind-the-wheel training course.  We suggest you contact your state's DMV to find out what the laws are in your state regarding hands-on driving instruction.
I have no clue how to drive a manual-shift vehicle. What happens if northeast community college makes me train on a manual-shift vehicle?
Considering the fact you are a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about operating ANY type of vehicle....stick OR automatic!  If you prefer to do your hands-on driver training with an automatic-shift vehicle, you may want to call northeast community college and let them know before you sign up to take their driver training course.  That way you'll know for sure whether northeast community college will be able to accommodate you before you pay them any money.
I live in a small rural community, where there are a lot of small, unpaved roads. Will my driver training with northeast community college include being taught how to drive in rural areas? Or do they just offer training for urban driving?
Most local driving schools will likely want their students to know how to drive safely in the local area.  Therefore, chances are good that the driver training you receive from northeast community college will include handling unpaved roads and mountain driving.
If I'm 14, can I get a driver's permit to drive in Nebraska?
Possibly.  However, you should be aware that most states require you to be at least 15½ years old before you can get a learner's permit.  We recommend that you contact the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driving school such as northeast community college to find out exactly what the minimum age requirement is in Nebraska.
Is taking a drivers education course in a classroom or online sufficient in norfolk Nebraska or do I also have to register for a driver training class with a professional driving instructor?
It depends on what the Nebraska's laws require, but many states do mandate that new, young drivers to enroll in a driver training class with a professional driving instructor as well as a drivers education classroom or online course.
Nebraska's DMV has told me that I need to take a driver training course. Do you know if northeast community college offers this course or not?
northeast community college does offer the driver training course that Nebraska requires all new teen-aged drivers to take.  For more information about the courses northeast community college offers, we recommend that you contact northeast community college directly.
I live in norfolk Nebraska. What are the requirements for me to be able to get my first Nebraska driver's license?
It depends on the particular laws of Nebraska, but most states require teen-aged first-time license applicants to successfully complete both a drivers education classroom course and a driver training course.  northeast community college may offer courses which would fulfill the behind-the-wheel training requirement, however you will need to contact them directly to find out exactly what types of courses they offer.
Is there a law in Nebraska that requires me to take driver training in order to get my driver's license?
Yes.  State law in Nebraska mandates that all teen-agers successfully complete an approved behind-the-wheel training course before receiving a Nebraska driver's license.
Is it okay for me to sign up to take a driver training class in Nebraska before I receive my Nebraska instruction permit to drive?
Probably not.  Most states require first-time drivers to have their instruction permit before they are allowed to register for a driver training program.  You should contact a driving school like northeast community college and request more information.
