Colonial Driving School FAQ’s
How do I know if Colonial Driving School is certified by Virginia's DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses?
While we do include Colonial Driving School's contact information in our driving school directory, we cannot say with certainty as to whether Colonial Driving School is licensed by the State of Virginia.  We recommend that you either contact Colonial Driving School directly or possibly the Virginia DMV to find out if Colonial Driving School is a licensed driver training school.
I've been told that either of my parents can supervise my behind-the-wheel training, so I don't have to attend a Colonial Heights Virginia driving school like Colonial Driving School to fulfill my driver training requirement. Do you know if that's true or not?
You will need to contact the Virginia DMV or a state-approved driving school like Colonial Driving School to find out.  Some states do allow parent-taught driving, but many states do not.
I don't know how to drive using a manual-shift. Will Colonial Driving School have an automatic-shift car available that I can use for my driver training?
Since you're enrolling in a Colonial Heights Virginia driver training class, chances are good that you don't know how to drive either a stick-shift OR an automatic!  However, you should let Colonial Driving School know what your preference is before enrolling in their behind-the-wheel class.  That way you'll know for sure they will accommodate you.
I live in a rural area, that has a lot of dirt roads and rugged terrain. Will Colonial Driving School train me how to drive in BOTH city AND rural environments?
If you live in a remote area, chances are very good that a local driving school like Colonial Driving School will want you to be trained in driving specific to the local area's terrain.
Are 14-year-olds eligible to apply for a learner's permit in Virginia?
Although a few states allow teen-agers to begin practicing how to drive at 14, most states have set the youngest age for which to receive an instruction permit at either 15 or 15½.  You will need to contact the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a certified driving instruction company like Colonial Driving School to find out what the minimum age for driving is in Virginia.
I live in Colonial Heights Virginia. Does the law say I have to successfully complete both a driver ed classroom or online course and a driver training course in order to be fully-licensed here?
Each state has its own laws in regards to licensing procedures.  However, most states do mandate that new, teen-aged drivers take both a driver training course plus either a drivers education online course or drivers education classroom course .
Virginia's DMV has told me that I need to take a behind-the-wheel training course. Do you know if Colonial Driving School offers this course or not?
Colonial Driving School does offer the behind-the-wheel training course that Virginia requires all new teen-aged drivers to take.  For more information about the courses Colonial Driving School offers, we recommend that you contact Colonial Driving School directly.
I live in Colonial Heights Virginia. What are the requirements for me to be able to get my first Virginia driver's license?
It depends on the particular laws of Virginia, but most states require teen-aged first-time license applicants to successfully complete both a drivers education classroom course and a driver training course.  Colonial Driving School may offer courses which would fulfill the behind-the-wheel training requirement, however you will need to contact them directly to find out exactly what types of courses they offer.
What does the law in Virginia say about driver training courses? Do I have to take one to get my driver's license?
Yes, you do.  Virginia law states that new drivers take an approved behind-the-wheel training course as a prerequisite to getting their first driver's license.
Do I have to receive my instruction permit in Virginia before I am allowed to register for a driver training course like the one Colonial Driving School gives its students?
Laws vary from state to state, however most states do require that you obtain an instruction permit before you can register for a behind-the-wheel training course like the one that Colonial Driving School gives its students.
