Potomac Driving School FAQ’s
Since Potomac Driving School appears on your website, does this mean they are approved by the Virginia DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses?
The list of driver training schools on our webpage is provided as a convenience to our customers only.  We CANNOT guarantee that every single school listed is fully-certified by the Virginia DMV.  You may want to call Potomac Driving School directly to find out if they offer a state-certified behind-the-wheel training course.
Do I have to take a driver training course? Can't my parents just give me my driver training?
There are some states that do permit parents or guardians to provide their teen-aged kids' required driver training in order to obtain a driver's license.  However many states do not allow any type of substitution for attending a professionally-taught driver training course.  We suggest you contact your state's DMV to find out what the laws are in your state regarding hands-on driving instruction.
Do I need to tell Potomac Driving School that I need to train with an automatic-shift car? I don't know how to operate a manual-shift automobile.
Most new drivers don't know how to operate either a stick-shift OR and automatic-shift vehicle!  We recommend that you ask Potomac Driving School if you can complete your driver training using an automatic-shift automobile before you register for their driver training course.
What happens to those of us who live in a rural area? Will Potomac Driving School include instruction on how to drive on dirt roads, mountain roads, and other rugged?
If you live in a remote location, there is a high probability that a local driver training school like Potomac Driving School will either want--or even be required--to tailor their instruction towards driving safely in your particular area.
Can I get my Virginia learner's permit once I turn 14?
Most likely, no.  Most states have set the minimum age to obtain an instruction permit at 15 or 15½.  You may want to contact the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driver training school like Potomac Driving School to learn more about the minimum age requirement in Virginia.
Is taking a drivers education course in a classroom or online sufficient in Ashburn Virginia or do I also have to take a driver training class with a professional driving instructor?
It depends on what the Virginia's laws require, but many states do mandate that new, young drivers to enroll in a behind-the-wheel training class with a professional driving instructor as well as a drivers education classroom or online course.
I have to register for a safe driving class in Ashburn Virginia before Virginia will give me my driver's license. Does Potomac Driving School offer this type of course?
Potomac Driving School does offer the behind-the-wheel training course in Ashburn Virginia that is required by the State of Virginia.  You will need to contact Potomac Driving School directly for more information about the behind-the-wheel courses they offer and their class schedules.
I live in Ashburn Virginia. What are the requirements for me to be able to get my first Virginia driver's license?
It depends on the particular laws of Virginia, but most states require teen-aged first-time license applicants to successfully complete both a drivers education classroom course and a behind-the-wheel training course.  Potomac Driving School may offer courses which would fulfill the driver training requirement, however you will need to contact them directly to find out exactly what types of courses they offer.
Is there a law in Virginia that requires me to take behind-the-wheel training in order to get my driver's license?
Yes.  State law in Virginia mandates that all teen-agers enroll in an approved driver training course before receiving a Virginia driver's license.
Is it possible to enroll in a Virginia-certified driver training course before I obtain my Virginia instruction permit?
It depends on what the specific laws are in Virginia, however most states require first-time drivers to receive a learners permit before registering for a driver training course.  We recommend you contact a driving school such as Potomac Driving School to obtain more information.
