Can anybody take online drivers education in Montana?

How old do I have to be to take my Montana instruction permit or learners permit exam?
You need to be at least 14 years and 6 months old to take the learners permit test, however you must be enrolled in an approved traffic education program. After you've completed the program and have passed your 15th birthday, you can receive your Montana instruction permit or learners permit.
What paperwork or documents do I need before I can learn to drive a car in Montana?
The Montana Motor Vehicle Division ("MVD") will ask you for proof of your age and identification, as well as your residency in Montana and your social security number.  You will also need signed parental approval to obtain your Montana instruction permit and start driving.
What if I don’t pass Montana DMV's learners permit test? Will I have to wait to retake it?
You will need to pass a 33-question instruction permit exam, with 27 correct answers, to obtain your Montana instruction permit.  If you don't pass it the first time (or your 50th try!), just show up at your nearest Montana MVD location the next day and try again.
How many questions are on Teen Driving Course's final exam?
Teen Driving Course has a 35-question final exam, and you will need to get 80% to pass (that's 28 questions right) to pass.  If you don't pass the first time, you can retake the exam over and over until you do pass at no additional cost.  You can't fail with Teen Driving Course!

Usually 3-5 business days, if you go with regular mail (USPS).  However, when you sign up for Teen Driving Course, you can choose to have your Montana online driver ed completion certificate sent via FedEx 3rd, 2nd or Overnight delivery, for an additional cost.
When can I start driving on my Montana learners permit?
You can start driving now, but there are restrictions:  if you're under 15 and have a traffic education learner's license, you must be supervised by a licensed parent or guardian at all times.  If you have are between 15 and 16 and have a Montana instruction permit, you still need to have a licensed driver at least age 18 who has been authorized by your parent or guardian to supervise you in the front passenger seat at all times.
How long do I have to have a learners permit before I can get my Montana drivers license?
You have to wait at least six (6) months after receiving your Montana instruction permit before you can apply for a Montana drivers license.
Am I required to attend a Montana driver training school?
Before you turn 16 and apply for youir Montana drivers license, you will need to finish a state-approved driver education course.  Behind-the-wheel training with a licensed Montana driving instructor will likely be involved as part of your Montana driver ed course requirements.
How many hours of supervised driving do I have to have before I can get my Montana drivers license?
While you are preparing for your drivers license exam and are driving with a Montana instruction permit, you will need to log at least 50 hours of supervised driving practice (10 of which must be at night) and you will need to have these hours signed off on by your parent or legal guardian when you submit them to the Montana MVD.
Can my friends ride with me after I get my Montana instruction permit?
No.  If you have an instruction permit you cannot drive passengers unelss they are family members, and you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, or by a licensed driver at least age 18 who has been authorized by your parent or guardian to supervise you, at all times.  The supervising driver must be seated next to you in the front passenger seat.
Can my friends ride with me after I get my Montana drivers license?
Yes, but there are still some restrictions.  For the first 6 months after receiving your first-year restricted drivers license, you may carry only one (1) non-family passenger in the car, unless a licensed driver who's at least 18 years old is sitting in the front passenger seat.  During the second 6 months you may carry up to three (3) non-family passengers unless a licensed driver who's at least 18 years old is sitting in the front passenger seat.. 

After the first year, there are no restrictions on passengers other than what's included in standard Montana traffic safety laws.
