MICHIGAN DRIVER LICENSE REQUIREMENTS AT-A-GLANCE:
Minimum Age for Learner Permit 14 years, 9 months if successfully completed an approved drivers education course (you may enroll in driver's ed at 14 years, 8 months)
Learner Permit holding Period 180 days minimum
Minimum amount of supervised driving 50 hours, including 10 at night; 30 of these 50 hours must be completed before enrolling in Segment 2 of Drivers Education.
Minimum Age for Driver License 16 years

Unsupervised driving rules Level 1 license holders may never drive without a qualified supervising driver (a licensed adult at least 21 years old) seated in the front passenger seat. Level 2 license holders are prohibited from driving between 12 midnight to 5 a.m. without a qualified supervising driver present
Passenger rules No restrictions on passengers for Level 2 license holders
Other Driver education is a requirement for drivers under 18.
