NORTH DAKOTA DRIVER LICENSE REQUIREMENTS AT-A-GLANCE:
Minimum Age for Learner Permit 14 years
Learner Permit Holding Period 6 months (if you’re still under 16 yrs of age after the 6-month period has passed, you must have completed an approved drivers education course before taking your road test)
Minimum Age for Driver License 16 years old. If under 16, you may be eligible for a restricted driver’s license.

Unsupervised Driving Rules Learner’s Permit holders must be accompanied by a qualified supervising driver whenever they drive. (A qualified supervising driver is an adult who has been licensed for at least 3 years)
Passenger Rules If you’re under 16 yrs of age, you may not carry more passengers than prescribed by the automobile manufacturer.
Other At 14 years, 6 months, students who have had a learners permit for 6 months and are enrolled in driver education may apply for a restricted driver license. Restricted license holder’s under 16 may drive only their parents vehicle or any other dual control vehicle and may not carry more passengers than the car’s manufacturer allows
