Defensive Driving School FAQ’s
Defensive Driving School is listed on your website as a driving school which offers driver training courses. How do I know if Defensive Driving School is a licensed school in Washington?
While we include a list of driver training schools on our website for your convenience, we cannot guarantee that every single one of them is currently licensed by the Washington DMV.  We suggest you contact Defensive Driving School directly or the Washington DMV to find out if Defensive Driving School is a fully-accredited driving school.
Do I have to take a behind-the-wheel training course? Can't my parents just give me my driver training?
There are some states that do permit parents or guardians to provide their teen-aged kids' required behind-the-wheel training in order to obtain a driver's license.  However many states do not allow any type of substitution for enrolling in a professionally-taught behind-the-wheel training course.  We suggest you contact your state's DMV to find out what the laws are in your state regarding behind-the-wheel training.
What if I don't know how to operate a stick-shift automobile? Does Defensive Driving School have automatic-shift vehicles that I can drive when I do my driver training?
If you're taking a Seattle Washington driver training class, chances are you don't know how to drive ANY vehicle yet-- manual or automatic.  However, if you prefer an automatic vehicle then you should tell Defensive Driving School that prior to signing up to take the course in order to make sure they can accommodate you.
Since I live way out in a rural area where driving on unpaved roads and rugged terrain is the norm, will Defensive Driving School be able to teach me how to drive in a rural environment? Or do they only prepare you for city-driving?
Since you live in a remote location, odds are that any local driving school in your area such as Defensive Driving School will want you to be able to drive safely on unpaved roads and bumpy terrain.  We recommend that you contact Defensive Driving School directly to find out exactly what they offer.
Can I apply for my Washington learner's permit once I turn 14?
Most likely, no.  Most states have set the youngest age to obtain an instruction permit at 15 or 15½.  You may want to contact the Washington Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driving instruction school like Defensive Driving School to learn more about the minimum age requirement in Washington.
Am I required to take a Seattle Washington classroom or online drivers education course before I can enroll in a driver training course through Defensive Driving School?
This requirement varies from state to state but most states do mandate new teen-aged drivers to take BOTH a classroom-based driver education course (generally 30 hours in length) AND a behind-the-wheel training course.  You should ask Defensive Driving School if they offer one or both programs.
Does Defensive Driving School provide a hands-on driver training course like the one that is required by the State of Washington? I need to complete one in order to obtain my driver license.
Defensive Driving School offers hands-on driver training courses which are approved by the Washington DMV.  You may want to contact Defensive Driving School directly for more information about their courses and how to go about registering for one.
What are the prerequisites in Seattle Washington for getting a drivers license?
It depends on your state's laws, however in many states, teen-agers must complete both a safe driving classroom course and a driver training course.  Defensive Driving School may offer an approved driver training course which you could take.  Please contact Defensive Driving School for information regarding their available classes and how to go about signing up for them.
Is it necessary for me to complete a behind-the-wheel training course in order to get my first Washington driver's license?
Yes, it is.  All teen-aged drivers applying for their first driver's license in Washington must complete a state-approved driver training course.
Do I have to obtain my instruction permit in Washington before I am permitted to sign up to take a driver training course like the one Defensive Driving School gives its students?
Laws vary from state to state, however most states do require that you receive a instruction permit before you can enroll in a behind-the-wheel training course like the one that Defensive Driving School gives its students.
