Pace Driving School FAQ’s
Since Pace Driving School appears on your website, does this mean they've been approved by the Maine DMV to offer driver training courses?
The list of driver training schools on our webpage is provided as a convenience to our customers only.  We CANNOT guarantee that every single school listed is fully-certified by the Maine DMV.  You may want to call Pace Driving School directly to find out if they offer a state-certified behind-the-wheel training course.
Could I just have my mother or father teach me how to drive instead of paying money to take a professional driver training course?
It depends on which state you live in.  There are some states which permit you to do your hands-on driver training with a parent or guardian instead of attending a professional driving school.  However many states require that new drivers take a professionally-taught driver training course.  We recommend that you ask your state's DMV office to find out if your parent or guardian can fill the role as your behind-the-wheel driving instructor.
I can't operate a stick-shift. Will Pace Driving School allow me to do my driver training on an automatic-shift vehicle?
We recommend that you contact Pace Driving School and ask them if you can do your driver training using a vehicle that has an automatic shift before signing up to take their driver training course.
I live in a small mountain town, where there are a lot of small, unpaved roads. Will my behind-the-wheel training with Pace Driving School include learning how to drive in remote areas? Or do they just offer training for city driving?
Most local driving schools will likely want their students to know how to drive safely in the local area.  Therefore, chances are good that the behind-the-wheel training you receive from Pace Driving School will include handling dirt roads and mountain driving.
I just turned 14 years old. Am I eligible to receive my learner's permit in Maine?
Probably not.  The minimum age requirement for holding a learners permit in most states is 15 1/2.  You should contact the Maine Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driving school such as Pace Driving School to find out more information about the minimum age requirement in Maine.
Do you know if the laws in Maine require new teen-aged drivers to take a driver training course in addition to a driver ed classroom or online course?
The laws vary from state to state, but many states do require you to register for a driver training course with "hands-on" practice in addition to a driver ed classroom or online course.
Maine's DMV has told me that I need to take a driver training course. Do you know if Pace Driving School offers this course or not?
Pace Driving School does offer the behind-the-wheel training course that Maine requires all new teen-aged drivers to take.  For more information about the courses Pace Driving School offers, we recommend that you contact Pace Driving School directly.
Do I have to take drivers education to get a Maine driver's license?
Drivers education requirements vary depending on which state you live in, but you should be aware that most states require new, teen-aged drivers to register for both a driver training course in addition to a drivers education classroom or online course.  You may wish to contact the Maine DMV to find out exactly what requirements you will need to meet in order to obtain your first driver's license.
I live in South Portland Maine and would like to apply for my first driver's license. Do I need to take a behind-the-wheel training course before I can be licensed?
Maine law requires that all new drivers sign up for an approved driver training program before receiving their Maine driver's license.  Pace Driving School may offer a driver training course that you are looking for.  Please contact Pace Driving School directly for complete information as to what types of behind-the-wheel training courses they offer.
Can I enroll in a Maine behind-the-wheel training course prior to having my Maine learners permit?
Most states require pre-licensed drivers to hold a learners permit before being permitted to enroll in a behind-the-wheel training course.  You should contact a driving school like Pace Driving School and ask for more information.
